Medical Assistants perform a variety of duties on a daily basis such as obtaining blood samples from patients, Regularly Updating records, and performing data entry accurately, Measuring and recording patients’ vital signs, and taking weight and height measurements.
- Requirements and Certifications
Requirements; Associates/Master’s degree in the medical field + passed a minimum of one exam from the National Commission for Certifying Agencies + 2 plus years of working in the healthcare industry + Strong communication skills + Superior customer service skills + high level of professionalism.
- Interpersonal Characteristics
Medical Assistants perform a variety of tasks in a medical practice working alongside patients and doctors. A successful Medical Assistant candidate will have the skills to interact with patients and be able to get information from those who may be in distress and their families. Medical Assistants also need to have interpersonal skills such as sympathy and empathy, so they may provide quality service to patients who may be in pain and their families.
- Technical and clinical skills
Not only do medical Assistants work with patients hands-on but Medical Assistants require technical skills in order to understand proper use of equipment to take patients vital signs. They should have experience/knowledge in computers, chemistry, anatomy, and biology. Being detail-oriented is also a required characteristic of a medical assistant, as they enter all patient data accurately in their records so insurance companies and doctors can refer to them. Candidates should have analytical skills in order to understand medical diagnoses and follow medical charts. They must also know and understand medical codes/Terminology.
